Description

"Angel and Koga"

In my art trade with :iconwhitew3r3wolf: she had made me two pieces. Sooooo i figured i'd be sneaky and draw this for her and slip it into the envelope with the other drawing as a surprise.
Turned out she sent me one extra too! An acrylic painting on canvas, a remake of a small drawing i did on her profile! :D
Its so pwetty ... :la: fav.me/d489ra9

Anyways, the German shepherd is her dog Koga, hes such a handsome boy. fav.me/d45tkz9

And the husky is her moms dog Angel, beautiful girl. fav.me/d418zcc

I originally wanted to draw Angel because not only is she gorgeous, but her story touched me.

She came into their yard randomly, she was skinny and wasnt taken very good care of. They tried to find the owners and from feedback they found out that her 'owner' was a breeder, and apparently ditched the dog when he moved while running from the law. Just ditched this beautiful white fullblooded husky!

So whitew3r3wolf's mom decided to keep her. They named her 'Angel'.~

However once :iconwhitew3r3wolf: received the envelope with the drawing of Angel and Koga inside, she informed me that Angel unexpectedly started to show aggression towards the houdehold cats and the ppl in the household aswell.
Her mom called several different dog trainers/behaviorists but they all refused to help once they heard the word 'husky'.
One woman even said that the only solution was to keep her in a kennel with a cemented bottom, with a shock collar, and submission training.

For those of you that dont know,
whenever a dog is deemed 'dangerous' by a state,
the state usually court orders them to be put into a permanent kennel with a cemented bottom, and covered top, (so the 'dangerous' animal cannot escape into society.) however its just a way of not-dealing with the problem and never actually helps the dog.
Lack of exercise/freedom/socialization/an not being able to ever again touch the grass, usually makes the animals mentality worse as it goes against all of their instincts and stresses them out.
This is basically what that so called 'trainer' suggested.

Oh and shock collars can cause problems to the nervous system, aswell as heart attack.
Its a low risk but certainly not one worth taking.

And 'submission training' is basically about beating your dog into submission. Its abusive, to put it simply. And teaches dogs nothing but fear, which isnt a way to live.

And it is despicable and petty to hear of a dog trainer, behaviorist, or rehabilitator to discriminate against breed.

Angel was mistreated before, so they werent about to do that to her again, they loved her too much to ever abuse her.

And so, because no one would help them, Angel had to be put to sleep on 8/12/2011...

 It breaks my heart.
I hate hearing this because it happens too much in the world.
I cried then as i am now while typing this.

You all too often hear of irresponsible owners and breeders that dont give a shit about their animals.

And people get to make a living off of being 'dog trainers' or 'rehabilitators' or 'behaviorists' and yet many cant even help solve the problems half the time, and even with the dogs that need them the most, they have no idea HOW to help and their 'advice' then, is to have them put down. :(

This happens too much, even in the majority of shelters, they dont have anyone rehabilitate any dogs with behavioral problems.
If the dog shows any sign of dominance, fear, or even being too hyper. They put the dog down, because even though they have the resources, they dont want to spend any extra money or time on them. :(
So they all get deemed unadoptable and get put down.

Keep this knowledge with you and dont forget Angel.

Angel's story has made me decide to volunteer at a local shelter to foster and rehabilitate dogs as soon as i get a place.

~In Memory of Angel~
May she rest in peace up in heaven, as a beautiful new angel in the kingdom God.

Angel died happy, comfortable, and surrounded by people that loved her. Her last moments were spent playing with Koga~
